Thanks for visiting this page. Here you can find some excerpts from my English translation of the Ekhirit-Bulagat variant of the Buryat epic “Geser” written down by Ts. Zhamtsarano in 1906 from Manshud Imegenov. The source text for my translation is the manuscript (Inv. No 1) of the collection of Buryat folklore which is entitled “Abai Geser khubun” and consulting its published variant (Abai Geser khubun, 1995). The text of the whole translation is about 300 pages, herein we give about 2-3 pages from each chapter.
This blog contains also general information on "Geser": on rhapsodes and collectors, who keep up the traditions of the epic alive, about scholars and translators, who discovered the epic and made it a part of world cultural heritage. We give some information on mythology and contents of the epic. You have a chance of listening to the live performance of some pieces of the epic.
